Covering almost 18,000 acres / 7,285 hectares, Laguna de Coyuca is a vast freshwater lagoon and is known around Acapulco for its exotic planting and wealth of indigenous wildlife.

Another scenic lake is the Laguna de Tres Palos, which is situated close to Acapulco Bay, while the family orientated Parque Papagayo is a great place to relax, with many open spaces, pathways and play areas. The main parks and gardens in Acapulco are described here.

Acapulco's Parque Papagayo is a traditional city park and regularly used by both locals and visitors alike, featuring a number of large expanses of water. People come here to relax away from the city life and enjoy the facilities available, which include a playing field, playground areas for young children, roller-skating rink, lake complete with pedalos, skateboard area, animal enclosure with sea turtles and crocodiles, and even traditional fairground rides.
